NYC and the Blizzard of '06

So, this is LONG over due to post, but here it is! Barry and I went down to Toy Fair this year and got caught in the worst blizzard in the recorded history of the city. We got over a yard of snow - on the day we had to go from our B&B to the Javits Center. What a NIGHTMARE!
Fortunately, we were able to hail a cab almost immediately. Unfortunately, I was almost run over by it as the cab was unable to stop as it moved towards us. I saw my life begin flashing before my eyes - as brief as that was. ;)

However, we were able to make it with minimal fanfare once the cab picked us up. The picture above is out the Javits Center door - about half way through the blizzard. Throughout the day we got double the snow shown here...

Once inside, it was toasty warm and we were able to drop our sodden coats off at a coat check, allowing us to peruse the sites. :)

Blizzard Makes Right

Well, it seems the Blizzard has finally seen the light and plans to address the problem instead of the victims...

Blizzard GLBT Gaming Policy Questions

In Newsweekly -.- Gaming -.- Blizzard of GLBT gaming policy questions
Terra Nova Response

I'm a bit surprised at this news that Blizzard is interpreting what appears to be a policy prohibiting discrimination into something that is clearly discriminating. Blizzard's inability to distinguish between creating a GLBT-friendly guild and the homophobic remarks that will inevitably come in general chat from immature players is mind boggling. In my own experience, at the very start of the World of Warcraft game, I found it puzzling why the word "gay" was lumped in with other, more vile language that was blocked by the filters set up in the game. The response I got back was a vague "well, it can be used offensively" which led me to believe they just didn't get it. Because I didn't have the patience to educate an entire company (not really sure if they even wanted to be educated), I dropped the issue. But now I may, as a long-time subscriber to their game, have to take Blizzard to task again over this issue.

Editing Comments

Well, I've been getting some unwanted attention lately. It seems that ad companies trying to lure unsuspecting people have finally found blogs to spam. The first time I thought was a fluke, but the second time made me realize that I had to do something.

I still welcome your comments, but I'm now requiring an additional verification when you leave your comments, just to make sure you're not a spammer. Sorry about the inconvenience!

A Philosophy to Live Life By

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

New Laws of Physics

Did you hear that they have redefined the Laws of Physics? Here's a sample:

Cartoon Law 1

Any body suspended in space will remain in space until made aware of its situation.

Daffy Duck steps off a cliff, expecting further pastureland. He loiters in midair, soliloquizing flippantly, until he chances to look down. At this point, the familiar principle of 32 feet per second per second takes over.

Mystic and Merry

I'm off to Providence this weekend to help out at Barry's concert with the Providence Gay Men's Chorus. It's their semi-annual show, and only their second holiday concert. It's "Mystic and Merry" and should be a good program. Visit the PGMC Website to learn more!

This picture is from the Wednesday night concert, and yes - they are wearing tuxes for this concert. Nice and formal!
